Where Did QR Codes Come From?
The QR Code is a form of technology that almost everyone has now been exposed to, as it has become increasingly implemented in a number of industries in the past few years. These black and white square barcodes were originally developed for tracking different items throughout manufacturing but have now pivoted to become widely used to link online pages which can be loaded on personal devices. This technology has become especially apparent in the food industry due to a number of factors. One driver was the pandemic, as communal menus were a source of health concern within restaurants. Additionally, it has added efficiency to the ordering process, ultimately resulting in less errors and quicker ordering times. Finally, the scanning features within mobile phones is now almost universal, whereas it used to only be available through a third party app. Overall, it has helped contribute to digitalization of food services.
